The Cycle Breaker

The Cycle Breaker

What does it mean to be a cycle breaker? It's something that I had never even thought about until recently. The last few years I've had a chance to take a step back from everything I thought to be true in my life and re-evaluate. It's in those moments of stepping back where realizations come to light. I grew up in a very negative, anxiety filled household. Everything was the end of the world, there was a lot of judgement and criticism of outside people and things, and an extremely negative "doom and gloom" attitude. Now looking back on it, I was definitely heading down that same path a lot of my life. Always looking at the bad, even if there was good to be found.

The funny thing is that I used to say, "How can someone that grew up with an abusive or alcoholic parent (these are just examples), turn around and do the same things themselves when they see firsthand what it does?" Meanwhile, I was living around negativity and didn't even realize it because that's all I knew. WHAT YOU'RE AROUND IS WHAT YOU KNOW. Now I get it, and maybe that's how or why I found yoga, or yoga found me.

With awareness comes realization. Maybe it's a realization of good things or not so good things, either way it's a realization. The point is that I have chosen to be a cycle breaker. Now that I'm aware, I get to choose to break the cycle. I can look at things in a positive light instead of a negative light. I can not pass judgment on others. I can tamp down anxiety so that it doesn't control me.

Once you're away from those feelings and realize what a load off it is, you will never want to go back.

"A cycle breaker is for the courageous, the bold, the brave ones who are ready to truly transform their lives from the inside out and finally break free from old patterns."
